Packing – Protecting Each Granite Tombstone for Long Transit
A beautifully crafted tombstone is useless if it arrives broken. At Fortune East Stone, we treat packing as the final and most critical step of production. Our team knows that a tombstone granite piece may travel thousands of kilometers by sea and land before it reaches its final resting place. Every scratch, crack, or missing corner is preventable — and we prevent them through a strict, multi-layer packing standard.
Our packing standard includes:
Interlayer protection – A soft foam sheet is placed between each tombstone granite piece. This prevents surface-to-surface contact and avoids micro-scratches during vibration.
Edge protection – Hard plastic corners are fitted on all four sides of every tombstone. These corners absorb impact if the carton is bumped or dropped.
Carton wrapping – We use 5-layer corrugated cardboard, which offers high puncture resistance and compression strength.
Stretch film – A waterproof outer layer wraps the entire carton, protecting the tombstone material from rain, humidity, and dust during storage or transit.
Steel strapping – Heavy-duty steel straps secure the packed cartons to wooden pallets. This prevents shifting inside the shipping container, which is a common cause of tombstone's edge damage.
For extra-large monument slabs that exceed standard carton sizes, we switch to wooden crates with internal bracing. Each crate is custom-built to fit the exact dimensions of the tombstone granite piece. Internal wooden supports prevent bending or flexing under stacking pressure.
In our factory video, you can see how two workers carefully lift each stone grave piece into the crate — no sliding, no dropping, no shortcuts. One worker guides the granite slab from the top, while the other supports the bottom edge. They lower it at a controlled speed, check the alignment with the foam padding, and only release it when the piece is fully seated. This two-person lift rule is mandatory for all monument pieces longer than 80 cm.
